Spring into wellness this season with Carthage Area Hospital’s “Weigh of Life” weight-management and healthy lifestyle program.

Carthage Area Hospital’s Nutrition Services team will lead participants through a 12-week program that begins Tuesday, April 17, at 5 p.m. at the hospital’s main campus, 1001 West St., Carthage. Carly R. Draper, the hospital’s director of Nutrition Services, will lead the spring program. Most classes last an hour and are held weekly through Tuesday, July 3.

“Now that the holiday season has passed and winter continues to fade, many people struggle to get back on track, especially in time for summer,” Draper said. “This program empowers participants with effective, evidence-based tools for successful weight management in an interactive, respectful environment.”

Draper is a Registered Dietitian, Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist, and Certified Diabetes Educator who has several years of experience helping people succeed with weight management.

Each class features an interactive lesson, food journal review, a weigh-in, and an opportunity to ask and receive feedback and coaching from a supportive instructor. The course covers a wide range of topics aimed at helping participants succeed in making lasting lifestyle changes.

During the 12-week program, participants will learn, among other topics: Steps to successful weight management; What fad diets are and why they don’t work; How to manage portions and read nutrition labels; Tools to overcome obstacles; The connection between food and mood; The power of positive thinking; How to control your weight without being hungry; Healthy ways to boost physical activity; The benefits of vegetarian proteins; How to eat healthy without breaking the bank; Tips to dine out sensibly; Smartly navigate the grocery store; Ways to maintain motivation and set reasonable goals.

Course registration is $60, or $5 per class — less than the cost of a typical meal at a fast-food restaurant. Some insurance providers cover weight-loss programs; contact them for details about policy benefits. The course fee is due in full at the first class meeting.

Interested participants may register online at carthagehospital.com/weighoflifeform or email Carly Draper at cdraper@cahny.org. Call 315-493-1000 and ask for Nutrition Services to register by phone or learn more.

Registration deadline is noon on Friday, April 13; space is limited.
