The 2017 Ellie VanEenenaam Golf Classic committee recently presented the Samaritan Medical Center Foundation with a $40,000 gift to benefit the new Walker Center for Cancer Care. This year’s golf tournament was held on July 21, 2017 at Ives Hill Country Club.
“Ellie possessed a steadfast commitment to golf and to her community,” said Lesley McKinney, committee chairwoman. “After losing her courageous battle with breast cancer in 2014, our committee thought it only appropriate to support, in her honor, Samaritan’s new Walker Center for Cancer Care.”
The committee’s gift will support two blanket warmers for patients of the new center, as well as two patient infusion stations. Each station includes two infusion chairs and overlooks the rooftop gardens.
“Ellie and her husband, Dr. David VanEenenaam, are an important part of Samaritan’s history of caring,” said Thomas H. Carman, president and CEO of Samaritan. “With this gift, her legacy will live on through the Walker Center for Cancer Care in a way that is inspiring and meaningful to the community she loved. We are so grateful and honored to be a part of her legacy.”
The Walker Center for Cancer Care is expected to open in the fall of 2018. This 17,000-square-foot facility brings Samaritan’s cancer services and physicians to one convenient location that is designed with patients in mind.
